Jabotinsky and Pipes are rightReader comment on item: Further on Israel's Winning Its War Submitted by Richard MILLMAN (United States), Apr 7, 2006 at 16:05 Actually in fact Israel started to lose in the late 1980s when Rabin and Shamir refused to put down the first Intifada. At that time I was in charge of the academic program at the Israeli Military academy PUM. Senior officers told me that there was little future planning on how to deal with such issues as terrorism etc. They believed peace was on its way and therefore it was unnecessary to address future problems. These disastorous changes happened happened after Begin resigned from the premiereship. Until then there was little hope in the Arab world of defeating an Israel that was widely believed to be invincible. As far as Sharon's "about-turn", Daniel Pipes didn't believe it could happen. When I told him about it he was sceptical and could only say that this would contradict everything Sharon has said or done until then.
