support Israel, not the BibleReader comment on item: The Bible's Role in American Support for Israel Submitted by Lewis Loflin (United States), Aug 31, 2006 at 10:58 I can attest to the myth that many "Christian Zionists," etc. support Israel on basis of some apocolypse, etc. I'm a traditional Deist/Unitarian, thus reject some aspects of the Bible, etc. I'm also a traditional liberal (neo-con I believe, that is no anti-Americanism, political correctness, etc.) I'd be known under Judaism as a "G-d fearer" and I'm part of group of Jews and Jewish converts. But I have no intention of conversion. I'm happy as a freethinker. (No, freethinker doesn't mean atheist, at least in the past.) I have no hostility towards any religion unless it attempts to suppress civil liberties of others. I support Israel as a western democracy, not because it's merely Jewish or anything to do with the Bible. I support India (I get along well with Hindus) against Islamist Pakistan. I think I reflect many people in that 44%. The radical left uses that claim to discredit Israel, Christians, etc, which for some irrational reason they support a system that would kill every one of them if it came to power. That includes far too many leftist "Jews" that are often just atheists and Marxists. (Chomsky, etc.) The endless Islamist' terrorism is destroying the name of Islam overall. The refusal of Muslims to openly denounce these savages also hurts them. To what degree this equals support Israel is unknown to me. 911 changed my thinking on liberals and Muslims. I'm still fond of the Turks I knew in Europe. For more on traditional Deism see http://www.sullivan-county.com/deism.htm and note that deists don't require any form of conversion. Jews, Christians, and Muslims, and even Hindus are just fine. Just use your mind. It's interesting to note that 99% of my hate mail concerns Jews, support of Israel, Arlene Peck, and Mr. Pipes. Even with my theological disagreements with Christians (they are big disagreements) I got no hate mail. That says something with 15,000 page views a day. Keep up the good work Mr. Pipes.
