Arafat's Security WallReader comment on item: Reading Sharon's Mind Submitted by Don Saar (United States), Dec 23, 2003 at 10:18 Dear Mr. Pipes,It is my opinion that whatever you may divine out of Sharon's Hertzilia's speech, that one immutable thing stands out in his presentation and that is the accelerated construction of "Arafat's Security Wall" which is unalterably changing the strategic balance of power. Arafat's Security Wall (or Fence) is giving everyone a new view of this conflict and in particular is allowing Sharon and Olmert the ability to think wider and more strategically than ever before. This security wall will give Israel strategic depth and will not in any way or manner hinder the IDF and Shin Bet from operating on the Arabic side while at the same time provide greatly enhanced security to Israel Proper. Why therefore is Colin Powell, Arafat, Peres, et. al. all against this construction? Yes, Powell and Peres both state that their present concern is with the particular direction of this wall as it encompasses some nearby Israeli towns (e.g., Ariel, etc.), but believe me what their true concern is that this wall alters greatly the entire strategic balance of power and thereby lessens Arabic bargaining power. In Arafat's case, well this genius always loses in the end, doesn't he? Oh, one last thing: Arafat's burial place. Where? His body should ultimately be placed where it can never, ever become a martyr's gathering place. Therefore I suggest either burning it which is not the Jewish way, or rather it should be dropped into the ocean off the coast of France, his spiritual and political patron.
