Israel & Sharon's dilemmaReader comment on item: Reading Sharon's Mind Submitted by Muriel Efron (United States), Dec 23, 2003 at 17:58 I agree with Daniel Pipes that Sharon's new approach seems to put Israel on the defensive. But there is another element to this. The Palestinians may soon take a new approach - that is to have one state, with one person, one vote! This would be the death of our Jewish State. Israel would seem anti-democratic if they refuse such an idea. But the demographics tell us that the Arabs will soon outnumber the Jews. Since they will not accept the fact of a Jewish State, Israel has to do something for its security. To live in Israel today is to live in constant terror. I know - my children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren live there. I think the only solution is to EXCHANGE ALL THE CURRENT ISRAELI ARABS FOR THE SETTLERS. I know the world would think it terrible, but they are against Israel anyway! If the Arabs do not want any Jews near them, let them take their own people and re-settle them. Israel will have to be in an armed fortress- but they are now anyway. Israel is like the canary in the cage. Their conflict is part of the larger conflict between the Arab world and Western civilization. How can Israel get out of the dilemma of controlling people they don't want to control and still have a viable democratic state? I wish I had the answer. But at all costs, they must avoid the dilemma of being asked to be part of one state with the Palestinians. That would be suicide. Thank you for your thoughts on this.
