I think it is a good idea.Reader comment on item: Reading Sharon's Mind Submitted by George (United States), Dec 27, 2003 at 09:34 I would not call it retreat. It would call it strategical redeployment of people & army along the front line. And this should be done in the best interests of Israel. But with the disengagement of Jews & Arabs, Palestinians will lose their political leverage in media & on the TV screen. It will be no more soldiers "that are killing innocent Palestinian civilians". With the roadblocks removed it will be no more so called "collective punishment". All the Palestinian propaganda (like calling Jews racists & Nazis) is designed to work only because of this ENGAGEMENT between Jews & Arabs. But with the disengagement it will falter. They can still cry in international forums about the "occupied land" but without the pictures of children throwing stones at soldiers it won't have such a strong effect on international community. Without the bloodshed in WB & Gaza where majority of Arab population lives, the international community will be more & more reluctanctly addressing the Palestinian calls & will take more balanced approach. Palestinians will lose this image of the weak & destitute side in the ME conflict who acts out of desparation. And with the wall built, how will they attack Israel? Are they going to jump over it? In case they will be launching rockets into Israel it will constitute the grave escalation & will cause the Israelis to retaliate with airstrikes. After all if a man can't hold on to something, maybe it will be smarter just to let it go.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
