Dems on War on TerrorReader comment on item: Democrats Unlearn 9/11 Submitted by fred lapides (United States), Jan 7, 2004 at 09:43 I have till now admired writings by D. Pipes but this is an .. attack upon the Democrats! First, the Democrats clearly separate a fight (war, action) against Ossama and the Taliban for its attack 9/11. The invasion of Iraq is hardly the same thing and in fact was based upon a distortion (aka lie) that Saddam possessed WMD--this has not been shown to be a fact. If Saddam is (he is) a bad guy who needs to be taken out, then why not rulers etc in Syria, Iran, N. Korea, and China? The GOP of course goes along with its leader...unquestioningly following him. But there we seem distracted by Iraq at the expense of Afghanistan, where things are again heating up. In fact, when Bush gets reelected as he will, you will see a call for a national draft. Then the fun and games of Viet Nam redux will begin again and once again our nation will be torn apart. Solution: get out of Iraq and let them govern themselves for better or worse with the proviso that if they try for WMD or an alliance with Ossama and his terror group, we will take over again. Then focus upon international terror. And build up our military--now we have trouble recruting (army has upped pay for reenlistment), and hold off the draft, which will not be needed if we get out of Iraq. And get the thousands of troops out of Europe! what are we protecting there? The EU that hates us?
