Political correctness - a sad trendReader comment on item: When Osama bin Laden Becomes PC Submitted by Luise Valentiner (United Kingdom), Jan 26, 2004 at 08:32 It is true that the politically correct backwater the UK has turned into is becoming difficult to navigate. Unfortunately, political correctness and nonsensical spin distorts facts and truths. It also prevents discussion from leading to enhanced understanding and truthfully reflecting the issues dealt with. The result of 'PC linguistics' renders it hopeless to express anything, and, if we don't put a stop to this sad trend, will change how we use our language in the future - namely with greater distortion and further misunderstandings. I do believe that it's unnecessary to take it to this extreme. That if people took language/linguistics seriously, and learned to express themselves properly, we wouldn't be in this appaling situation in Britain - or the USA.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
