May we be sparedReader comment on item: Permit Muslim-only Enclaves? Submitted by Rebecca Moulds (United States), Dec 23, 2008 at 18:22 In 1982 and 1986 I visited Perth. I cannot remember seeing many, if any, Muslims there at that time; jihad, niqab and hijab were little-known words. There was no political correctness. It was a breath of fresh air, as I was living in Indonesia at the time, and welcomed vacationing in a very Western-geared city and country. In any society, there should be some assimilation; my German-Lutheran great-grandparents and Italian Catholic/Jewish grandparents assimilated into American society without pushing their agendas, laws and religions on this country. Why must the Muslims be given such leeway to force their ways, and their laws (Shari'a) on any country? If I were Australian I would be outraged. My Australian relavtives are outraged. It isn't enough that Muslims impose some of their ways on Westerners in their mostly-Muslim countries (such as the ones I lived in, Indonesia and Egypt) but now they are trying to take away our freedoms in our countries. I do not believe that Muslims only wish to segregate themselves to keep the "evil" West out of their society; they are slowly eroding our freedoms by imposing their laws. We must not allow this to happen, and the people in this country have to wake up, learn more about Islam, and never bend over backward to the very insidious ideology of radical Islam masquerading as a religion.
