It is a worldwide phenomenonReader comment on item: America's Desultory Religious Reporting Submitted by Pradeep Mohanty (United States), Mar 29, 2009 at 13:18 Dear Dr Pipes: How the Muslims live in a society before and after they attain a significant majority is remarkably predictable and well known. Islamic political institutions exploit the democratic and secular traditions of a nation to advance their agenda as long as Muslims are in minority and show no care for the very same traditions after they attain a majority status. And, the naive media (as shown by your examples above) not only does not raise its voice against these organizations but also fails to provide a platform to the secular agencies that may want to oppose the Muslim agenda. India has a long tradition of democracy and about 10 to 15% of its population is Islamic. India is also heading into a national election this summer. An example of how the Muslims exploit the democratic traditions to their advantage occurred recently when Muslim leadership blatantly demanded the governing party to choose a minimum number of Muslim candidates in an electoral region of that country. And this story stayed under the media-highlights for less than a few hours. I know that the above incidence is not directly related to the US, Middle East, or Western Europe (the primary areas of your concern) but it is symptomatic of the worldwide Islamist movements that probably get guidance from the same authority.
