Journalists scared of IslamistsReader comment on item: America's Desultory Religious Reporting Submitted by B.N.Gururaj (India), Apr 3, 2009 at 23:23 One of the reasons the Journalists give rough treatment to traditional religions of the country and gloss over the evil features of Islam may be that the typical rebellion against parental religion one feels during the youth. There is a tendency to condemn or criticize one's own religion though no particular religious denomination is preferred over the parental religion. But, then journalists have to outgrow their adolescent fantasies. There is no particular reason for the journalists to prefer a regressive, violent and anti-women ideology like Islam. Religion is a misnomer in this case. I am quite certain that journalists are scared of writing anything critical about Islam. In fact, Islam has not been subject to the kind of secular scrutiny that Christianity has been subjected to in the west since the age of Rationalism in Europe. The prophets of the Bible including the Christ were divested of their divine aura, their mental states recognised as various clinical conditions. But, none dares do such a job on Islam, Koran and Islam's prophet though there is enough intrinsic evidence in Koran and in the Prophet's traditional biography to undertake such a job. The journalists are plainly scared out of their wits when it comes to pointing out the inconsistencies in Koran and Sunnah on the one hand, and the practices of Muslims on the other hand. Liberalism and left leaning is only a cloak for the fear psychosis which seems to grip the journalists. Safe way for the journalists seems to be to praise Islam and Muslims sky high. What I have written here wholly holds good for India. From the comments of US citizens, it seems equally applicable to the US also.
