US policy toward Israel is perfectly consistent

Reader comment on item: U.S. to Israel: You Decide Nukes in Iran, We Decide Bedrooms in Jerusalem

Actually, the Obama administration is perfectly consistent in its policies toward Israel. Israel has been completely downgraded as an ally in order to curry favor wth the Arab world.

Warmer relations with Arab nations will be achieved by leaving Israel's security entirely in its own hands; that is, the US will not help Israel in any military raid on Iranian nuclear facilities. This policy surely sends a chill down the spine of the Israeli government, for it is tacitly implied that no obligations to the state of Israel will be honored should Israel use a military option against Iran or should Iran use the military option against Israel. Also, it virtually assures no action will be taken by the US in order to stop Iran from acquiring nukes. The result is paralysis of Israel's Iranian policy; and, it follows, of her security.

Second, the emphasis on halting growth of settlements in the West Bank and the Eastern part of Jerusalem are aimed at paralyzing Israel's domestic policies, as the large hint from the US is that it now supports partitioning of Jerusalem as well as the eventual return of West bank, both of actions will further weaken Israel.

So it can be plainly said that the ultimate aim of the Obama administration's policy is a weakened Israel. Once she is eviscerated in international and national affairs, and once the Arab world sees the US has no intention of defending her, she will be seen as easier prey for her enemies to devour.

In the meantime, the Obama administration, as is its wont, will continue to put out red herrings to mislead Israel and American Jews into thinking he is really on Israel's side. An example of his distractions include declamations reviling holocaust deniers and talking about Israel's sovereign right to defend herself while all the while ensuring she is weakened both domestically and internationally so the Arab world, which Obama's real politik sees as far more significant, may have ascendancy.
