Weakening IsraelReader comment on item: U.S. to Israel: You Decide Nukes in Iran, We Decide Bedrooms in Jerusalem Submitted by Fay Voshell (United States), Jul 14, 2009 at 11:07 Actually, US policy toward Israel is remarkably consistent. The Obama administration is delberately seeking to weaken Israel so it may curry favor with the Arab world. To that end, on the international level, Obama's and Biden's pronouncements that Israel is a sovereign nation which may make its own decisions are code words which mean the US will not come to Israel's aid should she seek a military option against Iran's nuclear ambitions. It is also an oblique announcement that the US does not intend to honor its obligations to Israel shoud she be attacked. The truth is that Obama's real politik favors the nations surrounding Israel. Certainly his response to the potentially democratic Iranian revolution begun June 12 indicates he has no interest in a democratic revolution there, just as he has little or no interest in Israel as a fellow democracy. Next, his policy toward settlements on the West bank and East Jerusalem are consistent with his stance on Israeli international policy. He intent on weakening Israel internally. How is he doing this? By requiring Israel to stop settlement growth in the two most disputed territories, he is not so subtley announcing he expects the return of the West bank and the partitioning of Jerusalem in order to increase his status with the Arab nations surrounding Israel. Thus, his policy toward Israel is perfectly consistent. The goal is to weaken Israel both internationally and internally in order that his adminsitration proceed to a larger goal of aligning itself with the Arab world. In the meantime, Obama will continue his tactic of throwing out red herrings which look like support for Israel, but which actually are mere window dressing. One such red herring is the declamatory condemnation of Holcaust deniers; another such is the insistence that Israel will be respected as a sovereign nation. Both declamations are meant to distract Israel and American Jews f rom what he is actually trying to do; namely, increase US standing with the Arab world by placating them with throwing Israel under the bus.
