The New York Times and the so called Islamic fashion! and where are you Huda Sha3rawi?Reader comment on item: Lorraine Ali, the Worst Political Reporter in America? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jun 13, 2010 at 11:58 Lorraine Ali wants so bad to promote the religion of the Arabs but this is what is so absurd about such story 1. Fashion is about celebrating, in the case of women, the beauty of women and there is nothing in al-khimar or al-niqab that is beautiful. Not even close. And anyone who knows the hypocricy of the Saudis would know that under such garmet women have very sexy, tight and revealing clothes with lots of perfumes and make-up. al-Khimar wa al-niqab look like a tent and it is a tent. Just imagine if this woman lives here in the US in the north east where we have very short light hours and more darkness during the winter and how can you walk with such tent when it is dark and you have ice or lots of snow on the ground? I guess the God of the arabs knew nothing beyond Arabia! And how about the summer months? she would suffocate with the high humidity and heat and Allah should have known better 2. The sad thing is this woman whose family are immigrants from Egypt does not seem to be aware of a great Egyptian woman and that is Huda Sh3rawi. Up until 1919 women in Egypt have to wear this very ugly al-khimar wa al-niqab. But the great Huda Sh3rawi told the people of Egypt that this is not for Egyptians and it is the dress code of the Turks and their masters the Arabs and it is the way of making women as second class citizens as they are not to be seen or heard which is very much the antithesis of the rule of women in the history of Egypt. Then she stood in the center of the biggest square in Cairo and took off her khimar/niqab and that was the end of it and the woman of Egypt were free again until the recent rise of islamists Shame on the NYT for regarding this ugly dress as fashion and shame on this Egyptian woman for not knowing the history of her own people and the struggle of the woman of Egypt as for Lorraine Ali? I do not except much but the scary thing is she got a job in our so called newspaper of record Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
