"But the case, in fact, is actually not over until" probably 2011Reader comment on item: Geert Wilders, Close to Exoneration Submitted by myth (Germany), Oct 24, 2010 at 15:30 probably 2011. By the end of the week Wilder's attorney Moscowicz succesfully was granted a new jury by an appeal after failing earlier. Without going into the lengthy details the issue came up when Moscowicz asked the jury to hear witness Jansen after his closing arguments of roughly 10 hours. The jury failed to decide on a request by the defence to hear arabic scholar Hans Jansen who was in the room. Not deciding on the spot was effectly denying the defence Jansen's testimony in the final stage of the trial. A very recent newsreport revealed that Jansen had dinner with judge Schalken of the same Amsterdam court which initially decided to prosecute Wilders a few days before Jansen was heard as a witness. That was the motivation of the defence to hear Jansen again on such short notice. The goal was to ask Jansen himself what happened and if, or to what extent, he had been influenced by the judge. Wilders sues judge Schalken for influencing a witness. The supreme court of the Netherlands (Hoge Raad) condemns Wilders for he,Wilders, said millions lost faith in the juridical system. I conclude the trial gained some dimensions. It cannot be missed by anyone any longer that the nature of this trial is political. The first victim of this "hate-speech"- trial is neither Wilders nor the muslim community, it is the legal system.
