Not all faith is badReader comment on item: Answering Khaled Abou El Fadl Submitted by Frank Luke (United States), Dec 29, 2010 at 11:10 Kevin Bjornson states: "Christianity has undergone centuries of assimilation to western civilization, so is less harmful than Islam. Judaism is more humanistic than either, therefore the lesser of three evils". That statement is only partly true. Western Civilization which gave the world the Democratic system of governance was the result of Christianity. The Renaissance movement which swept autocratic ideas out of the corridors of power in Europe enabled men to develop thought patterns which were clearer than before. This ushered in the movement we call Reformation of the church. It is this reformation of the church which brought about Democracy as a system of governance. Democracy was then exported to various parts of the world by Great Britain. Thus we see that our current civilization was the result of Christianity. Christ once said to would be leaders: "He who is chief among you must be your servant". The term "civil servant" used in England was probably the result of such Christian norms. In societies which were basically passed over by the Renaissance movement, government big-wigs are not referred to as "civil servants" primarily because they still retain the old mindset of "I rule over you so you are my servant". Faith which builds up is good. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
