...Western history?Reader comment on item: Islam and Democracy - Much Hard Work Needed Submitted by TL Winslow (United States), Feb 7, 2011 at 13:00 "A half millennium ago, democracy reigned nowhere; that it emerged in Western Europe resulted from many factors, including the area's Greco-Roman heritage, rendering-unto-Caesar-and-God tensions specific to Christianity, geography, climate, and key breakthroughs in technology and political philosophy. There was nothing fated about Great Britain and then the United States leading the way to democracy. "Put differently: of course, Islam is undemocratic in spirit, but so was every other premodern religion and society. "Just as Christianity became part of the democratic process, so can Islam." ... The only reason the West went democratic is that a group of intelligentsia threw off the shackles of Christianity and went back in time to the pagan Greeks for their inspiration. They went through Hell to do so, and it took centuries, and even then it could only be done in the New World where established churches couldn't muster enough power to stop them, and sold out to the First Amendment. Meanwhile there was nothing similar going on in the brain-dead Muslim world filled with corruption, ignorance and superstition, and ruled by a lecherous clueless caliph. Yes, it would be nice to see the Muslim world jump ahead to the logical conclusion that Islam sucks and the ancient Greeks rock, with our help, via the Internet and otherwise, but the fact that most of that world is still illiterate and millions of children are taught nothing but the horrible Quran doesn't bode well for your rosy picture. The only real answer is the Winslow Plan of a worldwide effort to encircle the Muslim world, invade it, take the weapons from the men, separate the women and children, and bring the latter up with a secular education, not letting them see a Quran or mosque until they reach 18-21, after which they will be free to choose their religion, if any. The former Muslim world will then rejoin the human race, with freedom for all religions and equality for women. It worked in Japan, right? Too bad, there's 1.x billion of them, and this effort will take at least 50 million soldiers and 30 million teachers, requiring full participation by India and China, who will quibble about the secular curriculum but deserve their place in the Sun if they help us rid the world of the Islamist scourge. As we stall, the Islamists are getting closer to going nuclear, making the whole task far more difficult, check back with me later after the next Islamic nuclear attack.
