Thompson's Important viewpointReader comment on item: Syria: Arguing for U.S. Inaction Submitted by Herbert Caron (United States), Feb 26, 2012 at 06:05 Ron Thompson makes most important points, in comparing our open disapproval of communist ideology during the cold war, and our apparent fear of arguing with Islamists today (and the ridiculous assertion that true Islam is being hi-jacked by extremists). Islam is extreme and should be confronted honestly and openly. We are restrained in criticizing religious beliefs but not political beliefs. Are we heading for a world-wide confrontation with 1.3 billion Muslims? Confrontation with thousands of warriors happy to strap on the nuclear vests (of the future) is a frightening vision. I'd hope we could allow Islam and Sharia law to exist in countries that are in the Islamic sphere, and that proselytizing and other interference with each other, could be somehow, minimized.
