Fundamentalist lonersReader comment on item: Predicting Middle Eastern Politics Submitted by stevias (United States), May 24, 2012 at 18:56 Well the truth is, it does not matter much whether there is a lone fundamentalist (or Jihadist) who attacks western interests and lives because of an ideology that he/she is indoctrinated with, or whether there is a recognized terror group that carries it out, they are all actually the same group, Muslim fundamentalists, or Jihadists. It does not matter if they have a name or belong to a particular terror org or not. That is the beauty of Jihadism, anyone can do it. I was referring more to the social and economic consequences of having an Islamist extremist party in government over time. See how that has worked for the people of Gaza under Hamas. I bet they would love to return to the more secular days under the PLO. I also was trying to think about what would happen on an economic level when the ideology takes over government running. China is the only exception to this type of problem. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
