Egypt's Real Ruler, Mohammed TantawiReader comment on item: Egypt's Real Ruler: Mohamed Tantawi Submitted by Judith (United States), Jul 12, 2012 at 17:34 Would SCAF actually permit healthy participation? Doubtfully, but yes that idea makes sense if you can get through to Western powers who actually get the reality that the strongest horse will always rule in the Middle East and that would be the military. Thanks for the photograph. Guess that says it all! Turkey is another game. The Turkish Army has about as much staying power as the Italian Army did in WWII, and we can all be happy they were glad to get back to their wine, women and song. Eqypt is it's own game. I am not so sure that the general populace has any more credibility than the military as we witnessed the way they treated each other in the streets. Long before the "so-called Arab Spring" the Eqyptian men had been viciously attacking women in the streets of Cairo. It's safer in Istanbul, and it's not great there. Sometimes, East does not meet West and is best left to it's own devices. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
