Wrong againReader comment on item: Egypt's Real Ruler: Mohamed Tantawi Submitted by Karim (United States), Aug 25, 2012 at 17:54 You seem to be proving my point that political elite and commentators have been consistently wrong about Middle East since 1979. Your analysis of the situation has no basis in facts (you seem to have a deep understanding of Tantawi's thinking just through the magic of Television) and you dismissal of Morsi's intentions or political calculations are childish. The point is that US supports dictators (blinded by their unpopular support for US/Israel) and when they are overthrown, we are suddenly surprised when their replacements are not friendly toward the US. Egypt is lost (as you can see by Morsi's trip to China and Iran) and the rest of the Gulf states will be lost as well. Finally, hypocrisy exercised by US and European political elite is heard and experienced in these countries. People of Egypt ask where were these champions of human rights and freedom of the press when Mubarak was jailing political activists. Let's face it; significant number of people of Middle East are religious and given the freedom to vote, they would vote for Islamist parties because the secular groups have been nothing but lap dogs for US and Israel. We should accept this fact that we will not like people's choices in this part of the world (at least for many years to come) and this is the price we pay for supporting dictators and not finding a solution to the cause of Palestinians.
