Dr. Pipes: I'm afraid your thesis has been proven wrong.Reader comment on item: Egypt's Real Ruler: Mohamed Tantawi Submitted by There is NO Santa Claus (United States), Aug 14, 2012 at 08:47 Your thesis: "Mohamed Tantawi is the real ruler of Egypt." has been proven wrong in view of recent current events. It is not the military that is sweeping away the Ikhwan. Rather it is the Ikhwan that is sweeping away the military. Perhaps the chain of events taking place are analogous to what we've witnessed in Turkey. I'll let you sort out the details. For now, it looks like Morsi is consolidating power by displacing the precise people who can challenge his authority. If the Egyptian military is going to assert themselves in domestic politics, they had better do it soon. Regards, There is NO Santa Claus (aka TINSC)
