I don"t know if it's true, but it sounds plausible. Erdogan has been reported as likening "Democracy" to a bus. You get on it, in order to get to your destination, when you arrived, you get off it" he is reported as saying. He seems to have nearly finished the voyage - and I hope Europe, which is already a basket case, does not accept Erdogan's Turkey as a member.
