What Turkey must do to be consdiered democraticReader comment on item: Talking Turkey Submitted by Alexandros (United Kingdom), Jan 5, 2013 at 22:43 A lot of things are written and told about how democratic or Islamic Turkey is, the truth is that Turkey is not democratic, as simple as that, there can not be more or less democracy, it is either democracy or or it isn't. What Turkey must do to be considered democratic is simple: 1) Cancel the casus beli against Greece, which is without any excuse and is against an ally country! 2) Release immediately and without any terms the occupied part of Cyprus! 3) Compensate the victims of the 1955 pogroms, by giving them back their properties and their right to the Turkish citizenship and their right to return to their homes and be treated as the international agreements command! 4)Cancel the illogic laws which ban the building of new christian churches or other religion temples and treat it's citizens without religious or cultural discrimination. (And not introduce religious questions to those who want to join the University instead, which is a dark ages law) 5)Stop intervening to other countries internal matters, because this is what they do with all countries from Iran and Israel to Albania and Serbia like they are a kind of a big brother.(The neighbour countries and the neighbour people like Turkey as a brother, but not a big one). 6) Allow the media and the people to express their opinion free and without being afraid of being arrested or even murdered! 7) Accept the sovereignty of their neighbour countries! Simple things all of them and not just some, MUST be done, because all these are violations of human rights, international law and cancellation of any democratic sense and are all currently happening in Turkey as official policy!
