Iranian Hypocrisy

Of course you are right, but I think that the typical islamist take on the whole freedom of speech and pluralism thing is that all countries are brutal tyrannies and that those who claim not to be are just being hypocrites about their actual terrible brutalities etc. After all, those countries actually arrest jihadis, throw them in jail, and send drones after them, imagine how brutal and tyrannical that is!

So their strategy is to be extremely violent etc. themselves (consistent with their view of how politics and such should work) and whenever there is any response from the West with any teeth at all they hurl accusations of hypocrisy at them. This is also a desirable stance from their point of view because their whole internal ideology is fueled by a sense of grievance and without a constant stream of accusations that Americans and Israelis are genocidal baby killers they can't keep up the hate that fuels their movement.
