Dr Pipes was invited to speak on the NDAA not the international Jewish conspiracy on 9/11 or other loony anti semitic fantasies as propagated by paranoid cranks. Perhaps he thought it was best not to dignify such crazy ideas. But I disagree , in arenas where such notions are considered acceptable, its best to confront them head on.

All said and done it was 2, no 3 against one(including a host who though not hostile to Pipes was certainly sympathetic towards the other two).

Taking that into account, he did well.
