Why should Israeli Americans be politically puritan and correct?Reader comment on item: When AIPAC Went AWOL Submitted by Amit Srivastava (India), Mar 5, 2013 at 00:47 When Whites are so divided over supporting Republicans then why should Jews and Israeli Americans have taken excessive measures to oppose Mr. Hagel's nominations? What Mr. Hagel said are things of the past even though they are on records. As long as he does not show any bias towards the state of Israel he becoming the Defense Secretary should not offend the Israelis Americans. The fact is as of now Mr. Obama is following the dovish policies towards Iran. But Mr. Kerry in his meeting with his Saudi Arabian counterpart said that there is finite time to resolve the Iranian nuclear crisis. Everything is finite. So what's the infinite? The end of Mr. Kerry's term in the State Department! What Mr. Kerry is telling that the time is not linear—that's how finite becomes infinite. And the position taken by Obama's administration would change depending on time and changes in the US Congress after 2014 elections. Things have changed and the past may not be the clue to the future. Sure, Mr. Hagel repeated anti-Israeli sentiments many times but if he in his term plays a fair game then it is okay. All Americans need to understand that the US shows too much concern about Israel and therefore Israeli interests are more-often protected. But to strike a balance some in the US Congress or Federal government can appease Arabs and other Moslems. It is altogether a different thing that one of those persons has become the Defense Secretary. With all respect due to Mr. Pipes this does not appear to be a Machiavellian game. Instead it appears to be segmentation based purely on self-interests. And Republicans may be beneficiary as well. It should be emphasized that conservatives need to give some flexibility to their Presidential candidates and their nominees should they win. This is required for winning as well. The argument is that in democracies all have got single and equal vote without their being equality. Therefore, the things need to be looked in totality. Republicans should have given their tacit consent to AIPAC to support Mr. Obama and not to oppose Mr. Hagel's nomination. The segmentation is becoming the reality of today's political structure. But sure, Republicans should not deviate too much from their idealism. The fact is that Capitalism, Westernism and Whiteness need to win in the West. For that they need to win in the US first.
