Debanjan Banerjee: Our very own idiocy compactorReader comment on item: Is Turkey in Europe? Submitted by Shishir (United Arab Emirates), Jul 14, 2013 at 18:59 Timur,Babur,Aurangzeb,Nadir Shah. The various Turkic and Turkish despots put the above gentleman to shame with regard to body counts. Strange thing that you say. Do you remember Timur gassing people for speaking Kurdish like Saddam did , do you remember Babur or Aurangzeb having CIA-trained secret police and torture cells like the Shah had , did you remember. I cant think anything stupider than what you said. Timur killed tens of millions ,what difference does it make what he killed them for? Does it even matter? You need to understand the difference. Understandably these were brutal warriors (as the American Puritans were) but unlike the Puritans these people did not kill or imprison people based upon who they were. Anyone who puts the Puritans and Timur in the same category is a different level of fool who makes Rachel Jeanteal seem like Betrand Russell in comparision Killing people based upon simply their ethnicity was a Western project and that cancer has affected the Muslim world. This would be news to the millions of murdered enslaved Africans,Amazighs, Kurds et al.So in your view it is ok for Muslims to kill in the name of religion but not for others to kill for the sake of ethnicity? I wont be surprised if you are indeed so disgustingly immoral Furthermore, Muslims weren't exactly gentle lambs in the equation. The Crusades and establishment of Israel would not be neccesary if the Muslims hadnt captured these areas which belonged to the previous Christian and Jewish owners. You seem to be living in another world. Jerusalem was destroyed by Romans and Jews were not allowed to visit or settle there. It was the Muslim conquest of Jerusalem which allowed the Jews to come back to Jerusalem. If Muslims were really so magnanimous they would restore Jewish sovereignty in the mode of Cyrus. As per the Christians , well the Copts and others in the holy land welcomed the armies of Caliph Omar because they were dying slow death under the tax burden imposed by the Byzantine system. Isnt it odd you need to go to the distant past and depend on intra Christian squabbles to highlight Muslim tolerance.According to this logic you should sing praises of Israel for providing its Muslim citizens rights that they dont otherwise possess in other Arab countries And if the West is so concerned about Christians then why does it train groups like Al-Qaida to kill Christians in Syria and Iraq ? Which "West" do you speak of? Most Americans are against any type of involvement in Syria? And the Obama administration is not known for representing traditional Western values! You need to understand something A Catholic if he is an Arab would be treated as an Arab by every Western Christian and not as Catholic. In the Western culture and politics , ethnicity triumphs everything. You will forgive if I choose not to learn Western history from you Desiring European cultural influence is another. This is the most worrisome part. In my view Western cultural influence breeds dystopian disfunctionalism in the Muslim world and the results can be seen in Al-Qaida who are a product of this European cultural influence. I dont think anyone is interested in your view since it is so devoid of fact, logic and common sense. Somehow Japan,China,India and South East Asia's contacts with the Western world though often less than sparkling and indeed have suffered more from the West. Can you please specify how these countries like Japan , China , India and South East Asia have suffered more from the West ? When it comes to suffering with whom you are comparing them ? Hiroshima,Nagasaki,Vietnam,5 million dead in Bengal(shame on you for not knowing) during WWII alone. I am comparing with what Muslims have suffered at the hands of the West.I am frankly getting tired of addressing your utter ignorance. Japan's early 20-th century history tells is that it became a ruthless colonialist country alike the West was in those days. I do not consider that to be a good outcome at all. If the contact with the West can lead to the rape of Nanjing then better I would say had commodore Perry drowned on his way to Japan. And I would say our cause is better served with you on the other side if your thoroughly ineffective ...arguments are any indication Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
