A personal dilemmaReader comment on item: My New Polish Identity Submitted by Ruben Lenger (Israel), Mar 27, 2014 at 06:22 I have the same kind of background as you. When young I was sure there was some Polish sentiment in me whenever I looked at the old Polish books my parents kept or postcards with the Polish kings features, or a wonderful Pan Tadeus my father received from the Polish ambassador (all still with me), etc. I know very little Polish but feel at home hearing people speaking that language and I know to sing by heart the old Polish hymn. And still, I also remember the horrible things that happened in Poland, not during the war but before, the terrible deeds that condemned the Jewish minority to poverty and to second class citizenship, the Polish ministers that had no problems declaring they were antisemites, and I ask myself, is this my country? I prefer my Israeli passport, with all the inconveniences involved... Submitting....
