RESPONSE TO: ARE MILLIONS WORLDWIDE PROTESTING ISRAELI ACTIONSReader comment on item: Are Millions Worldwide Protesting Israeli Actions? Submitted by Ameer Labeeb Hassan (United States), Jul 21, 2014 at 18:10 I'm not pro-israel, but I think of myself as a fair minded person. World wide protest shouldn't affect anything the Israeli government decides to do. HAMAS started the conflict. It appears that global opinion is a HAMAS tactic to reorganize, regroup, and rearm to start the next round of conflict in the same manner as it was started this time around. Israel should remain in Gaza, in spite of global opinion or international pressure, until the military capability of HAMAS has been wholly degraded. If Cuba launched missiles against the United States, there would be no talk of a cease fire and no diplomacy to that end. There would be all out conflict, so why does the world expect Israel to talk cease fire on humanitarian or other grounds? If I were a Jew, this would be unacceptable to me. The only acceptable thing is the peace and security of ones people, even if that means a full occupation of Gaza to prevent future aggression. Having said this, I want to make my belief clear that all nations and peoples have a right to self defense against external aggression.
