When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary... and other long sentences

Hi, Tovey

This is my second comment tonight on this same thread, so I checked what we're presumably all talking about: "Pushing for a Ceasefire", and spin-off topics.

You begin you piece with a long sentence -- sort of like the writings of Apostle Paul, or of a German. Let me piece this out...

"Isaiah 17"

I just commented on this to Tom Skylark. Check it out there, if you have time.

"To be sure, the latest issues of Iranian sponsored terror against Israel from Hamas held Gaza is as serious as it can get, this time looking as though it may take a decidedly more involved investment of Israel resolve than in times past..."

To be sure, to be sure... but note that Iran is not the only sponsor of HAMAS. Turkey and Qatar are its biggest backers.

What troubles me this time around in Gaza, is that the stakes are so high for Israel. If Israel settles for anything less than completely uprooting HAMAS from the Strip, a "David vs. Goliath" victory will be trumpeted throughout the world, with HAMAS as "David". On the other hand, the US and pretty much every country in the world are pressing Israel hard, to accept just such an outcome. To add insult to injury -- and indeed, more injury and death as well -- HAMAS will quickly replenish its stockpile of weapons, even more accurate and deadly than before, and we will see a replay, many times more awful, in another two years or so.

Turkey and Iran ganging up on Israel is the stuff of Ezekiel 38-39. The whole world opposing Israel, though, is the stuff of Zechariah 14, the final battle of this age (which will culminate, according to Zechariah, in nuclear war). It's "the stuff" of it; but those battles are not for some time, it seems.

"Many do not want to make Biblical application to what is happening right now; but it all of it is Biblical, down to the naming of the conspirators and their stated intentions."

Maybe this is true elsewhere; but on Daniel Pipes' blog, quite a few of us have been dipping into the Bible. Daniel has been very gracious in this regard.
