Why the Caliphate Fate is FatalReader comment on item: The Caliphate Brings Trauma Submitted by Dave (Canada), Aug 24, 2014 at 18:24 I agree with Dr. Pipes that in the long run the Caliphate craze will go the way of the Hula-Hoop, but its demise could be the same thing that brought it about: The spread of literacy and the internet which has led Muslims to become more aware of the texts and tenets of Islam. At first narrowly focused, they will ultimately question their faith as they read other things. This is similar to the rise of Protestantism in Europe as the advent of the printing press and literacy led more people became acquainted with the Bible, causing them to reject the Church's authority. As the years went by, people read more books and the Enlightenment arose. As Muslims expand their syllabus there will be a Muslim Enlightenment some day. Maybe they will even read Dr. Pipe's books.
