ISIS and the Changing Nature of WarfareReader comment on item: The Caliphate Brings Trauma Submitted by Alex (United States), Aug 31, 2014 at 14:12 Dr Pipes has drawn attention to the role of the media and public relations as opposed to performance on the battlefield or displays of strength as a newly predominant element in warfare. In view of some of the atrocities that ISIS has used social media to publicize lately, I think a new dimension of the changing nature if warfare has been opened up. The media can be used to create sympathy for he underdog, but it also can be used for what looks like a new type of violent pornography.
