Today's NYT had an interesting analysis of the Daeshi's strategic thinking. [http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/08/world/middleeast/us-strategy-seeks-to-avoid-isis-prophecy.html]. It would appear that the deliberately theatrical and provocative atrocities and terror attacks are intended to provoke a "boots on the ground" response from the Dar al-Harb; which dovetails neatly into their apocalyptic eschatology.

They desire this outcome. Believing it to be the "final" battle; from which Islam will emerge the ultimate victor.

As HL Mencken observed: "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong"
