Political Consciousness and the Legacy of American Racism After Slavery.Reader comment on item: Does Israel Need U.S. Jewish Support? Submitted by Robert (United States), Apr 19, 2016 at 02:44 Interesting important and analysis. But what remains is the question of Why? I believe that what see see now in the United States is the belief that our relative success in suppressing the racism which existed until the 1960's revolution against African Americans, Jews, Catholics, and everyone else who wasn't a WASP, resulting in the election of an African American family to the White House has induced us to believe that this Liberalism is a remedy ripe for the rest of the world. Millennial Jews think of the Middle East as just another American neighborhood but far away in which Israelis only need to treat Palestinian Arabs as equals with equal rights, and all will fall into place. This is the assumption behind the policy of two states for two people - assuming that this holds true in the context of the Arab Spring. On the other hand, we have the old-time radical left Jews like Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein, and now a milder version, Bernie Sanders, who generally believe that everything to United States, and Israel, do is foreign relations is wrong and a manifestation of American Imperialism gone overboard. I think that the changes which you observe in this article "Obama to Visit a Saudi Arabia Deep in Turmoil" What links the United States to Israel is the huge Billions of Dollars annual military budget apportioned to Israel by Congress. What will happen to that link, I do not know. But the idea most commonly advocated, that the sole Israel is a Democracy in the midst of the "Shit Show" (Obama's private neologism for it) of the Middle East, is rather silly. That connection is a mere dream to anyone versed in the Realpolitik of Henry Kissinger. But our President Obama is a genius; On this visit There have been 100,000 Greater Palestinians killing each other in Syria; Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
