A major distinction, important to considerReader comment on item: Ted Cruz for President Submitted by Michael S (United States), May 6, 2016 at 09:51 Hello, Daniel I just read the article you cited. The authors said that "Trump's supporters" would dismiss the author's hyperbole as hyperbole. I might note that I dismissed this stuff as hyperbole, long before I became a "Trump supporter". My support of the man came only recently, as a result of my becoming convinced that either Mr. Trump would become the nominee (and probably go on to become President), or people ... would not only cause the truly wicked Clintons to once again occupy the White House, but do damage to the Republican Party, or both. The suicidal attack by Republicans against their fellow Republicans, that we see today in some sectors, is not in response to a candidate -- who, contrary to the hype in the article you cited, has not incited anyone to kill anyone, nor to injure anyone other than in self-defense. It is in response to the Republican rank and file who, rather than seeking to nominate a demagogue, are seeking to defeat the party of another demogogue who is already in office, and the oligarchy that he serves. That party is a true treat to the integrity of the republic my forefathers built (Yes, not only were my direct ancestors among those who not fought in the American Revolution, and the Civil War; but one of them was Elder William Brewster, who composed the Mayflower Compact). I am concerned about my country, would not advocate electing a demogogue, and want to do everything within my means to keep wicked men and women out of office. I have been commenting on your blog for perhaps a few years now. I am deeply grateful for your allowing me to do so, and to express my opinions. In return, I have done my best to avoid saying things flippantly here. Others read my comments, and attach some weight to them; but I dare say they attach much more weight to your own comments, both here and elsewhere. I am careful about what I say, because of how it might affect others; and you should also be careful: considering these things not just once, while writing them, but over and over; because you, and to a lesser extent I, are changing the course of history. Let me explain my own concern in this election. First of all, I have no doubt in my mind, that not only will the American people choose a demagogue for a leader, but they will obey him in persecuting not only the Jews but all who believe in or represent the Bible. That leader will go on to lead the world in an attack on Israel. You certainly can see this thing building, as it has been for years. It is indeed a wicked thing; but it will not be the result of a "narcissist" or other deranged person; it will be the result of a people who have abandoned personal conscience and trust in God, in exchange putting their faith in governments and leaders; a people whose own bellies have become their Gods. Fortunately for us, in this election cycle, the American people -- especially those who support Donald Trump -- have not risen up to choose leaders for gods and demagogues for leaders. Quite the opposite has happened here: Mr. Trump has received the support he has, because Americans have quite had it with self-serving leaders, oligarchs politicians, and civil and industrial servants who help themselves out of the good will of the public; and they are fed up, as well, with the foot-licking mainstream media that support them. The supporters of Mr. Trump, in other words, are motivated by the very same things that motivated our forefathers in opposing the English king and forming our republic and constitution. That is a major distinction, and a very important one to consider.
