an issue that runs very deep ...Reader comment on item: Ted Cruz for President Submitted by Anne Julienne (Australia), May 20, 2016 at 04:11 Yes, Michael, we do disagree and on an issue that runs very deep. It's now little wonder to me that "Christians" like yourself have repudiated Cruz. I think he takes Matthew 5:44 seriously and I think he takes international law seriously as well. His moral standards are clearly too high for the mob. I read somewhere that even Trump retracted his "take out the families" statement. I don't believe that the Allies during WW2 ever adopted a policy of "taking out the families" of Germans or Japanese. In Germany especially, the huge civilian casualties were indeed "collateral damage" in most cases. Many German cities could have been targeted if that was the intent but it was mainly the industrial cities crucial to the German war effort that were targeted. Yes, a case can be made that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were instances of a policy finally to "take out the families". However, it was a last resort, it was a complex and painful decision, and the US lives with the moral shame to this day. Unlike you, I simply do not want to live in a world where it is OK to "take out the families" of identified enemies. That ultra-leftist Noam Chomsky rants on and on about the sins of the US, to the point of seeing 9/11 as something that was coming to you, something deserved. So, you've served in the US military then? And you can assure me that Chomsky is right then? I've not served in the military myself (as if that is a measure of factual knowledge of war) but I have worked as a military scientist and I do know a thing or two. One thing I do know is that, even if it is a last resort and even if there is no other alternative, you don't go around boasting that you intend to "take out the families". It might be hypocritical to do it secretively but it is at least an acknowledgement that you and your citizens see this as a shameful option. Italy has managed to keep the mafia in check, at least to some extent. If they had resorted to "taking out the families" of mafia bosses, then the country would be an utter hell hole. The kind of utter hell hole that prevails across much of the world where civilisation has failed to take root. Tell me, is there *anything* you believe in ... other than Trump? I ask because it's plain to me that you *don't* believe in Christian morality nor in the benefits of civilisation and the rule of law.
