But then, I realized that this was not a coup. A coup would have succeeded. It would have been carefully planned and executed by senior military leaders. Little would be left to chance. What we witnessed was at best, a desperate uprising by a small faction of the military hoping their act would gain momentum and support from senior military leaders. At worst, it was a deliberate false-flag operation to give rationale to Erdogan's seizing more police-state power. The best chance to militarily overthrow Erdogan came in the last decade. Dr. Pipes was already sounding the warnings on him. Sadly, the U.S. State Department under Condoleza Rice blew the cover on the mounting coup. This cemented Erdogan's power and allowed him to purge the military of all potential opposition. That is why the recent coup was led by relatively low-ranking officers. Just when Erdogan seemed to be coming down to earth! A reconciliation with Israel coupled with realization that ISIS isn't his friend; it all seemed to send me the message that maybe Erdogan was starting to understand some practical limitations to his disastrous path. , This latest coup seemed to spring up from nowhere and now he has his old dragon's breath again. Dr. Pipes, I'm not certain there was any meaningful coup to root for. Have you considered that? I don't have the opportunity to follow the details too closely. Maybe you can help provide some reliable details. Regards, There is NO Santa Claus (aka TINSC)
