Not so sure, Mr.PipesReader comment on item: No to Bombing Syria Submitted by Soloview (Canada), Apr 12, 2017 at 13:38 I agree that the US bombing of the Shayrat airbase was bad move, but I disagree about the West supporting the jihadis against Assad. Its bad strategy, because it strengthens Assad's ties with Tehran, which as I am sure you know are not based on mutual admiration or shared ideology. It is also bad strategy because Assad is now politically much stronger than he was before the war. The war has caused him to be lionized as a protector of Syria, and the sentiment grows with the millions internal exiles who crowd the territory controlled by his government, a daily reminder that it can get much worse than Assad. Further, the continuous war in Syria poses security problems for Europe through migration, infecting the continent with Islamism and the cultural mycelium that helps its growth. Finally, of course, you may yet find the importance of the moral dimension, i.e. the ugly toll of underhanded support for degenerate jihadists who hate the West and seek to destroy us as culture. No it's not a good idea. There are definitely better ways to control Assad than sending Syria back to the Stone Age.
