Dear Daniel Pipes,

I think that you, like so many Americans,
dislike trump, or are prejudiced against him because of his delivery, or style,or rhetoric.
But if you look at his performance instead, you might take a different stand.
Trump has consistently done exactly what he promised in his campaign.

And now - today - we have this news:

"Trump cuts $200 million in aid to Palestinians"
https://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Trump-cuts-200-million-in-aid-to-Palestinians-565733

Clearly,he is also punishing Abbas for his refusing to communicate with the US administration
after it had recognized Jerusalem as its Capitol.
Trump is responding to this weakling PA head
who dares to oppose the United States.
You have no reason to believe that Trump will betray Israel.
You think you really miss recognizing the fact that Trump is a Philo-Semite.
He also appreciates the ally which Israelis in relation to the United States.
Trumpisn't at all sentimental about the Palestinian cause.
Instead he sees a vital, beneficial, and lucrative relationship
that exists between the USA and Israel.
Trump sees Israel as the greatest ally of the USA,
and he sees the USA as being able to assert its will alone if need be.
So the honeymoon with Israel will continue.

In particular,Trump "smartly" (one of his limited favorite words) will take advantage
of the divide between Hamas in Gaza and Abbas in the West Bank.
Trump will exactly what Abbas fears most -Gaza will be peaceful
and thrive economically, while Abbas will pursue his fantasy
of a Palestinian state on pre-1967 boarders with East Jerusalem as its capital,
while much young West Bank Palestinians will pursue the new fantasy of a one-state solution.

It's "Palestinian" former (Trans-)Jordan which is the greatest mystery ... as to what will happen in it.
