Ramallah's Pipe dreamsReader comment on item: Reservations about the Trump Peace Plan Submitted by J T Meyer (Germany), Jan 30, 2020 at 11:55 The real addressees of the Peace Plan are not the Arabs "between the river and the sea"; it is not for Ramallah but for the Arabs abroad, especially the governments in Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Cairo - at least for now. Certainly no one in the Arab world will be overly enthusiastic concerning this plan, but since said governments are interested in developing and improving relations with Israel – especially with a view to Tehran, but also to Ankara – they have to prearrange a justification for doing so for reassuring themselves and their own citizens as well. With the brand new peace plan at hand, any Arab ruler can use it to put the Palestinian question on the back burner: Ramallah could either accept the plan, or may present a better one. For the plan is pragmatic, but Ramallah is not. Those Zionists who are not ready to embrace said plan can therefore safely relax: Don't worry, be happy, for President Abbas and his followers have fallen in love with their own pipe dreams and have no conception of realpolitik.
