Total Victory, Simple Victory

Mr. Pipes, I think we need to better define our terms. By total victory I mean the demilitarization of the enemy, together with whatever else is necessary to insure the end of hostility. I don't think your example of VN fits. VN "won", but the U.S. is not like the terrorists who will never stop until they are stopped and unable to wage war.
