A political victory for Israel as wellReader comment on item: The Key Issue of Hamas vs. Israel Submitted by There is NO Santa Claus (United States), Aug 25, 2021 at 22:19 Dear Dr. Pipes: I believe Israel scored a political victory this time. Though I have no statistical evidence, I found both media and diplomatic criticism of Israel's defense to be far more muted in this recent conflict compared to those (with Gaza/Hamas) in the past. I attribute this to one major factor: Israel is now a critical supplier of strategic technological components in the global supply chain. Few except the most radicalized anti-Semites are going to allow a bunch of juvenile delinquents interrupt the supply of key semi-conductors, medical instruments, surgical instruments, pharmaceuticals etc. The global shortage of semi-conductors alone probably played a big role in the muted response. I also believe that the spring 2021 "sabre rattling" by China against Taiwan withered and died in large part due to the shortage of semi-conductors. In addition, Israel's new trading partners in the Arab League could not have hurt Israel's diplomatic dilemma. Israel's new Arab peace partners further demonstrate to others that the Jewish State is a willing peace partner. I don't recall hearing the usual harangue about "Israeli intransigence" during the recent conflict. If not a "diplomatic victory", I think it is clear that the Jewish State showed a lot of progress on the diplomatic front. I hope this adds to Israel's military deterrence going forward. If this is the reason, I would be astonished. One about never hears this mentioned and ideologues seem not to care about it. Daniel Pipes Reader comments (31) on this item
