Strategic SpaceReader comment on item: Nation-building in Afghanistan, Iraq Was Never Going to Work Submitted by leonard a oken (United States), Sep 19, 2021 at 18:24 China treats its Muslim community with concentration and re-education camps. The harsh treatment of this minority is mostly ignored by Muslim nations with hardly a peep worth mentioning. Afghanistan is useful to China for at least "strategic space". It allows China to easily enter and influence Central Asia and deal with Iran without going through Pakistan into the Persian Gulf. It would ease China's need to match the US and its allies in regards to naval parity. Afghanis who cooperate will have it good those that don't will be hunted down with a ferocity unseen in modern times and nobody will know or even care about it. If and when the "Big One" comes America just might look back at 2021 and wished it stayed in Afghanistan and keeping China out!,whatever the cost which was minimal relatively speaking as of Biden's push to get America out.
