Fatwa: The Achilles' Heels of the BretheinReader comment on item: A Century of the Muslim Brotherhood Submitted by Robert (United States), Oct 1, 2022 at 14:39 Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes, As you certainly know, like the Communists before them inn ascending the ladder of history, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) "members" do not carry ID cards, and they do not explicitly a NGO (private institution) with a Headquarters sign. That is different from the case of the Hamas or Hezbollah, for example. However, because the MB advocates proclaim that they are the True Muslims in the world, their law is the Sharia which grants their covert members the means of issuing explicit FATWAS. According, you, Dr; Daniel Pipes, as an expert on the Middle East, and on Islam, are in an ideal position to read and study the Fatwas of notable Muslim clerics. In order to judge a cleric as to whether or not he is a Muslim Brother, one simply needs an expert like you to read the Fatwas said cleric published. But of course this is a time-consuming job. So maybe you can set up a committee within the Middle East Forum that would publicize the problematic Fatwas? Incidentally, I know you have valuable experience in this kind of an endeavor when Campus Watch (is this correct?) and you attempted to expose explicitly the anti-Orientalist on American campuses. The result was that you were bombarded with those who wanted to be included in your list (haha, but it's not really funny). Imagine, however, the possibility of a Paradigm Shift. Who do you think would want to have their name posted on your list of implicit Moslem Bretherin based exclusively on their explicit fatwas? I use the idiom or metaphor of "Achilles' heel" because it is quite difficult to identify a crackpot anti-Orientalist member of the Academy than it is to identify an Islamist Muslim Brethren by the Fatwa he issued. The vague literary trash of Edward Said's Orientalism is immune to such an attack precisely because it has too many legs each with an Achilles' heel (of course I'm writing metaphorically). It's a good topic but I am not convinced it's worth the effort it requires. Reader comments (55) on this item |
