The Decline of the West's Moral strengthReader comment on item: [Pew Poll on] How Muslims Think Submitted by Reuben Horne (Australia), Jul 2, 2006 at 21:50 Dr Pipes, The global contraction of western values fueled by the bastard intellectual progeny of Marx is perhaps best illustrated by the situation that you outline in Great Britain. The most virulent Islamist views are consistently found in a country that has the most timorous and politically correct view of Islam. Even the Iraq war supporting PM of my own country Australia lauded the British for their due process response to the London bombings - a reaction tantamount to condoning the British Government's going back to sleep on the issue of radical Islam. The Brits are not alone. In the Dhimmitude of the west the education sector has played a critical role in advancing the cause of Islamic imperialism. I have witnessed the decline of the education system in my country over a protracted period of time and have adopted the perhaps illusory notion that I may have been part of the last generation of decent graduates produced by both the tertiary and the secondary education sectors. The focus of our education sector has been on producing "better citizens" from a class of teachers who have suspect academic qualifications themselves and are by and large left wing idealogues. The university process of training these future teachers focuses not so much on their academic performance but on their political ideation. For the left wing quashing academic intellectual diversity is a fair tactic in propogating their own views. What does the curriciulum that these people produce consist of? An entire revisionist view of Australian history with a focus on genocides both real and imagined against native peoples, an attack on western institutions most notably the Catholic and other churches (which must include the Holy Roman Inquisition, an Islamocentric view of the Crusades, the Conquistadores - etc etc you get the picture). Conveniently absent is an emphasis on other periods most notably the enlightenment, the passing of the charter in Great Britain and the sufferagettes (universal franchise), the abolitionist movement against slavery or anything else that might give one a positive view of Western society. Perhaps not surprisingly these people have very particular views about Islam that run contrary to the reality which is so often discussed in this forum and they seek to transmit these views to the young. The older people who know better will be subject to coercion of one form or another to sign up to these values such as commitment to diversity clauses in public service written criteria for employment. Sometimes this intellectual rape of the minds of young people produces the self hating quasi-communists that staff and soldier the left wing parties and activist groups on university campuses that the system is designed to. More often than not however young people just simply don't want to learn that their ancestors were all evil scumbags and that they should berate themselves daily for this. Most sane folk don't see the need to bear the ideological weight of the guilt the left would impose on us all. They switch off and learn nothing. At the university level this produces the most extraordinary rate of attrition in new entrants fifty and sixty percent failure rates on simple elementary examinations. The Howard government has been pressing aggressively for a reemphasis on reading, writing and arithmatic as well as a depoliticising of the education system but the States are run by left wing parties and we have State run education system - giving the idealogues a buffer zone. In short I wouldn't hold my breath even though Howard's notion of reforming the public education sector strikes a cord with the majority of parents. The left controls the schools and ipso facto the future - it looks like they're driving us into a ditch. My prediction for the future is far more grim than those who see the west as striking back at ten seconds to midnight and reclaiming its identity. For a projection of our future I look to the Indian situation where Islam has sided with the radical left to become politically dominant continuing its paramilitary theft of women and property as well as the periodic deadly street theatre of terrorism on the side. Certain European states such as the Netherlands will become majority Islamic and be lost for the entire forseeable future whereas others will merely be subject to an equally painful substantial incursion where large minority Muslim populations are able to dictate to the politically diffuse majority through allegiances with the left and superior (more aggressive) political mobilisation. Even with disproportionately large political franchise in the west the Islamic population will still overtly and covertly sponsor terrorism the only difference being that the west's ability to police these atrocities will be substantially diminished by the poltically entrenched terror sypathetic Islamic population. Why is this? Because terror works. In the liberally biased media America's war on terror is always referred to as a "so called" war on terror. No matter how many pregnant mothers the Palestineans carve up, shoot or blow up, no matter how many young soldiers they kidnap they will always be favored by the media. Likewise with the insurgents in Iraq. Political concessions seem to invariably follow an attack - Sept 11 for example gave rise to increased scholarship funding for Muslim students the likes of which had never been seen. Despite cries of persecution the net welfare gain for Muslims from the horrible event was incredible. On the foreign policy front this will have all the implications that the left wants it to - western military superiority which has been sustained technologically will decline because of the accelerating political weakness of our countries. This will increase the power and prosperity of the emergent east in particular China which suffers from none of the due process quibbles that we possess in disappearing Islamist insurgents. The calls for mass deportation or the enforced subscription to western values are unlikely to be heeded or sustained for protracted periods of time (one such policy was the banning of the Hijab for public schools in France). This is due in part to the nature of our society but it is also an historical artifact of Nazi Germany and Adolph Hitler's destructive excursion into nationalism that stained the notion of nationalism in Europe and all western countries forever. So we wont go out with a bang ala Armageddon but with a whimper it seems. Unless of course something radical occurs in the mean time. Progress has unfortunately been dominated by inertia on all matters concerning Islam. "I subscribe to the philosophy of indifference" muttered one of my friends. So apparently does everyone else who is a decisionmaker in the west. Cordially, Reuben Horne.
