what do you expect?Reader comment on item: Muslims "Lagging Behind" Submitted by Vijay (United States), Dec 25, 2006 at 19:33 The faith encourages a deeply insular approach to life. It's been around for so long, but except the Ali (Shia) schism in the 1st century of its existence, there has never been a spirit of exploration or rebellion in it. Education is rarely encouraged beyond religion. An absolutist agenda is very popular. The majority is totally silent on violent extremism that is so wide spread. It's no wonder they are falling behind everybody and soon (when the oil is over) they will be the bottom of the barrel (no pun intended). Sadly once that happens, savagery of the Wahhabi Islam will end up being the localised menace like the civil-wars of Africa (Darfur, Zimbabwe....etc), where the rest of the world doesn't care and they don't have the power to launch terrorist attacks anymore. With no oil money and no education and no modernity, all they can do is turn on each other (kinda like Iraq now) and then unfortunately the world will just watch.
