To Moderate Muslim: You are invited to a floor wiping competition (dhimmi no more please read this post)Reader comment on item: How the West Could Lose Submitted by Plato (India), Feb 25, 2007 at 02:35
"All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves." Moderate Muslim I have searched both Ibn Ishaaq and Tabari for the last sermon of the prophet from which you have obviously quoted but the first sentence you have quoted does not occur in either of them. I searched the Web and some have that sentence and others do not. So where did that particular sentence spring from. I suspect somebody has been putting words into the mouth of the Prophet. The last sermon is nowhere near Jesus' sermon on the mount, in fact just the opposite. Whereas Jesus' sermon is uplifting the Prophet's is depressing. Both Ishaaq and Tabari have: Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim ..... do injustice to yourselves."(Ibn Ishaq Page 651 and Tabari Vol IX page 113). This sounds more like the Prophet of Islam who always talked of the Muslims as a chosen people. And it goes well with the aya: 003.028 : Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends rather than believers; and whoever does this, he shall have nothing of (the guardianship of) Allah, ..... Note that the Prophet says nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim. Since booty from pagans was such an important part of the prophet's life he has excluded them from this injunction. Clearly you can rob infidels of what belongs to them. Moderate Muslim can you refute this argument? I suspect the first sentence is an interpolation by a Muslim trying to spruce up the last sermon. (Dhimmi no more could probably help here with what is there in the original sources. I am attempting an analysis using English translations). My suspicion was further reinforced when I read one Muslim site lambasting the Shia's and Sunni's for corrupting the last sermon: 'Shiites changed this version of the Sermon to read, the book of Allah and my family, while the Sunnites changed it to read, the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. Only the version that talks about QURAN ALONE is the only one that does not contradict the QURAN and does not have any political motive behind it. It is the version ignored by the sects of the Sunnites and Shiites because it does not support their political agenda.} {Here are the references to the three versions of the Sermon 1) I leave with you Quran and Sunnah, Muwatta, 46/3 2) I leave with you Quran and Ahl al-bayt , Muslim 44/4, Nu2408; ibn hanbal 4/366; darimi 23/1, nu 3319. 3) I leave for you the Quran alone you shall uphold it. ' http://www.submission.org/sermon.html There is a comment in the Tabari translation which says that Waqidi's Magazi does not include 'and Sunnah'. The sermon does not say (or the interpolator if there was one) a Muslim has no superiority over a non-Muslim. What is the implication of that? If the sermon had said 'all mankind is from Adam and Eve and none has superiority over the other' and left it at that it would have been a wonderful statement of equality among all people and sexes. Instead he goes on to spell out Arab, non-Arab, black and white clearly indicating only Muslims are included as the next sentence confirms. Reading the last sermon was informative in other ways. The Prophet of Islam thought of women as prisoners (Ishaq) and slaves (Tabari). The beating of women is also allowed (though not with severity)! Ishaq: "...If they refrain from these things (defile your bed) they have a right to their food and clothing with kindness. Lay injunctions on kindly, for they are prisoners with you having no control of their persons." Moderate Muslim, isn't that devastating. Women have no control of their persons. They are men's property (prisoner, slave). If you have a wife would you proudly read this sermon of the prophet to her? Nothing is said about what happens if you defile your wives' beds. Can you guess why. Read about concubines, and what happens to captive women in Islam. And how does it make you feel when your prophet says women have a right to their food and clothing with kindness. To me it felt as though he was talking about one's pet dogs and cats. Slam Dunk. Now wipe the floor with me. P.S. After reading your message to dhimmi I thought you will have to drop Moderate from your pseuodonym. dhimmi no more is sure to give you what for on the claim Islam is for all. But I would like to have closer look at something else in your post. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
