Equal rights for non-Jews in IsraelReader comment on item: Jewish and Arab Demographics in Jerusalem Submitted by Charles Gruenspan (United States), May 22, 2007 at 18:35 >"and then the rules that restrict the rights of non-jews in israel will be abolished." Non-Jews in Israel already have equal rights to Jews, except that Arabs are exempt from compulsory military service. The point to my comment is that this discrimination should end. All Israeli citizens should have equal rights and equal responsibilities. Only if Arabs choose not to serve, would they then be considered as resident aliens, without the right to vote in national elections, but retaining all other civil rights. The double advantage to this policy would be that Arabs who choose to serve will be more likely to fully integrate into Israeli society. Those who don't will not be counted as part of the majority, even if they continue to proliferate, and many may choose to move to a state where they feel more compatible. >" it won't be long before all property taken from the palestinians is returned." To the extent that any Palestinian private property was expropriated by Israel, the former owners should be promptly and fully compensated, with or without the prior agreement of Arab states to fully compensate Jews for their expropriated properties .
