Prevention is better than cure?Reader comment on item: [Brandon Mayfield and] Preempt Terrorists, Or Not? Submitted by Truth-Teller (United Kingdom), Oct 3, 2007 at 11:00 Pre-empting enemies before they attack? Interesting.... Imagine if you will, that Western forces through a series of coups had installed a dictator in Iraq, and then another, and then another. They funded them and armed them, and when they got too big for their boots and bit the hand that fed them, well that was then time for a change. Now the people of that country hate America for all its meddling; in fact when you look at the American values it is no wonder they labelled that great country as the "great Satan". So, after decades of meddling in a sovereign nation's affairs, well lets just say the people aren't too happy with you. So after a catalyzing incident like 9/11 (whosoever was responsible ...), we now need to pre-emptively attack anyone who 'might' attack us. YES! Kiling the innocent peoples of Iraq! That's the solution... why didn't I see it before? Was I so blind? Iraq was all along the great threat to American empire, it was the great threat to global destabilization... oh hold on... weren 't there 10 years of sanctions which were said to have "crippled" the country. Wasn't it Condi, George and Colin who as late as 2001 said Iraq was no threat and had no capability to attack its neighbours let alone America. Erm....I'm confused. So as a country who in recent times, had only ever attacked Iran and or its own people (all of which sponsored of course by the US, queue cheesy grin, hold missile direct into camera stage left and smile " this war is brought to you by the US of A, the killers who care"), was now economically crippled, had years of sanctions at a death toll some put at one million - mainly children; years of arms inspections each of the successive inspectors complaining about Saddam... well simply put ...being a pain in the backside, but nonetheless, there were no weapons to speak of as they had been decommissioned... just a proud man who has had is country brought to its knees. There's not much left for him to do is there? Only then when a country is on its knees, proud, crippled, and with no way to defend itself.. does the proud USA attack it. Attacking a defenceless, starving nation after 10 years of sanctions... now that's a new low... even for America. There was no declaration of war. There was no mandate from the UN. There was no backing by the people. Its no wonder it was all expected to be over by tea time. Oh.. but wait.. they weren't going down without a fight were they. Maybe someone somewhere should have done a little homework on the meaning of "Ummah". So we went ahead and with our tax dollars, we killed innocent civilians, children asleep in their beds.. we blew up schools and factories, we went on house to house raids depopulating areas, we built permanent concrete bases, we sent 50,000 mercenaries in to do the dirtiest of dirty work that we couldn't stomach.. .and we could stomach quite a lot... the war crime of razing Fallujah to the ground, the killing... nay, genocide... of men women and children. The standing order was that even a dog was not allowed to survive and walk the streets in Fallujah (the City of Thousand Mosques). Using illegal chemical weapons which burned the skin of kids playing football in the street, we planted car bombs, we waged the dirtiest of wars against a defenceless people, the likes of which has never been seen before.... Or has it? Vietnam, remember that? That was pretty pre-emptive last time I checked... well according to the Gulf of Tonkin incident there was never an enemy! But can you recall the rhetoric we were being brainwashed with: the dehumanising.... one minute they are are living in peace in their villages with their families, much like we do, with barely a single asphalt highway in the whole country...we called them Vietnamese 'killers', murderers, commies, that they had no love for their children, that they were a nation of war mongerers, that they had no concept for the sanctity of humanity nor of human life... and on and on it went. And we bought it... because it cleared our conscience and allowed us to hate them... it allowed the war machine to use them for target practice village after village, napalm after napalm, dead civilian after dead civilian. What a proud nation the US of A must be... taking down all these nasty bad guys who threaten our sovereignty. Are we asleep? Or is the power of denial so alluring.... there is no new phenomena of PRE EMPTION. Its evil satanic war mongering by just another name. We ripped the label off the tin and stuck a new one on. Going around the world invading people is WRONG. Killing innocent people who are going about their daily routine is WRONG. Is this so very hard to comprehend. The deaths on 9/11 however tragic and however horrendous, were a drop in the ocean compared to the innocent lives that the US takes on a monthly basis around the world. And without 9/11 where would the war on terror be? Are we so blind that we cannot see that those who invade foreign nations and kill the peoples of that land... that those killers are the right hand of Satan. Was it pre-emption that prompted the genocide of North America? Was it pre-emption that caused the genocide of the Australian aboriginal? Was it pre-emption that lead to the invasions of Africa, India or the Middle East. We don't like to talk in terms of good and evil, black and white, because when all is said and done we, the West, and our kind...without any doubt whatsoever, we sit squarely on one side.
