What ever will be will beReader comment on item: [Brandon Mayfield and] Preempt Terrorists, Or Not? Submitted by SS (Canada), Oct 3, 2007 at 14:06 What ever will be will be This is going to sound harsh - but if the politics of the left is such that they want to do away with the preemptive measures that have been put in place to protect us. We can fight it - but if they win - so be it. Maybe it is what is required. Trash the PATRIOT Act and other measures that are arguably in place to protect us. The left just thinks we are crazed NEO-CONS - driven by a strange desire to keep certain people / races / religions down anyways. They do not believe the Radical movement is a threat - it is all in the imagination of the far right. If the coin gets flipped and our guard is let down - take the troops out of Iraq and possibly Afghanistan - and attempt to stay otherwise vigilant here at home, it is possible that it might work. In the short term this will improve our political position in the world - and would certainly save a lot of treasure. If we get attacked - in what will likely be a much larger way than 911 - that will be the catalyst to take this scenario to the next level. Consider that a nuke(s) - even a lower yield "dirty" one(s) - could do enormous harm and cause death on a very wide scale. Not just the blast itself - but the aftermath would be devastating for months - if not years. This maybe the way it has to go. America and the west has suffered serious loss in world and civil wars - we have always adapted and moved on - when the chips are down - we can play the game. Our history is that we are a reactive society not a proactive society. So be it. So long as we are prepared to live with the possibility that we may lose a few cities or so - and possibly a million or more people in the process - we can play it that way. At least this will put to rest any further ideology from the left that it is all in the minds of NEO-CONS on the right. If and when a horrific tragedy like this took place - the repercussions would be unprecedented. Never mind sending in troops and risking lives - those with even a remote hand in the raw materials - will go boom - bye bye. Moderate - Radical and all. Too expensive to separate the wheat from the chaff. It is a scientific fact that they can determine exactly where the raw material was developed. This would put a serious slant on what countries do and do not do with nuke technologies - as the "fall out" would be devastating. What ever will be will be - seems to me this direction is a much higher stakes poker game - but what the hell - you only live once. I just hope the left understands the Pandora's box they are opening - assuming it happens that is.
